Amanda Wellcome, daughter
of Dale and Cheryl (Rhynard) Wellcome was a participant in the 114th
Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA on January 1, 2003. She is a
freshman flute player in the award winning James Logan Band of Union
City, CA. (San Francisco area) The band and color guard
marches approximately 300 members.
Her parents, Dale and Cheryl Wellcome,
grandparents, Loren and Ruth Rhynard and her Aunt Cheri (Mrs. Duane
Rhynard) were in the stands cheering her on.
The 5.5 mile, 2+ hour march was a
challenge which the band members accomplished with only 2
dropouts. When asked her opinion of the grueling march, her
comment was "I'll never do that again!" which was likely
the sentiments of many.
In march of 2003 the James Logan Band
traveled to Long Beach, California to participate in a band music
festival. Amanda is first chair flute in the concert
band. She played a piccolo solo on one of the pieces.
Her grandparents, Loren and Ruth Rhynard, enjoyed hearing an
excellent performance.
Amanda plans on being in the band
next year. Rumor has it that the band may participate in the
two mile long Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
